MY RESUME

Nina Iordache,Literary Translator and Writer
Email: [email protected]

I am a Native Romanian and live in Bucharest, Romania. I have a BA with major in English and minor in Romanian (University of Bucharest, Germanic Languages Faculty, English-Romanian Section).
I have graduated in 1974 and my diploma paper was entitled:  „Hamlet – To Be, To Seem” supervised by Professor Leon Leviţchi.

My translation experience spans over more than 30 years, 21 ones of which spent in an English spoken environment at the American Embassy Bucharest. I also have a Recommendation from my last boss there, please feel free to request a copy.

Years ago I led a Science Fiction club and during those years I was awarded a prize for a Fantasy story I wrote: The Tea Rite (the story was later published under my maiden name, Nina Daian). Later on I have translated The Listeners by Mr. James Gunn who visited Romania at the time and whom I had the honour to meet personally.  I have also translated The Queen Of Air and Darkness by Paul Anderson, and both Mr. Gunn’s novel and this superb fantasy novella appeared in the Anticipatia (Romanian) fanzine.

In 2006 I became a literary freelance translator and have translated the following books and literary texts, mainly published by Humanitas, the well-known Romanian publishing house:

In 2006:

-          a practical philosophy book “How to Get Ideas” by Jack Foster http://www.librariilehumanitas.ro/product.php/O_idee_geniala/5367/

-          Nefertiti, by Nick Drake (a thriller in Ancient Egypt) http://www.librariilehumanitas.ro/product.php/Nefertiti_Cartea_mortilor/5384/

In 2007:

-          The Little Princess by Tony Ross (translated for and published by Humanitas Educaţional), children books http://www.librarie.net/cautare-carti.php?pg=&t=&au=&e=Humanitas+Educational&co=Mica+Printesa&categorie=0&oa=0&a=&op=0&p=&stare=0

-          A detective book by Ron Hubbard for an American Agent

    In 2008:

-          A teens’ book entitled Global Warming by Glenn Murphy (published by RAO Publishing House) http://www.raobooks.com/cautare.asp?q=incalzirea+globala&btnCautare.x=43&btnCautare.y=10

-          A teens’ book entitled Mummy Mysteries by Joyce Tyldesley (published by RAO Publishing House)

http://www.rao.ro/editie.asp?id=2222

-          Completed long-term translation of a biography of a fascinating female political figure of our times, to be published later this year.

I have a computer, a laptop and a broadband Internet connection and a wide array of dictionaries to help me with my translator’s work.

This resume should also reflect my passions so I am naming them here: Science Fiction and Fantasy, books about ancient history and mysterious civilisations, archeology, mythology, the arts, music, painting, architecture and children’s books.

Shakespeare represents for me a deep love springing from my passion for the English language.

Please feel free to contact me for any questions that you may have.
